Period of Grace. Senior Traffic Commissioner warns not to leave it too late!
A period of grace provides an opportunity for an operator who fails to meet a mandatory licence requirement to continue their operations, granting them time to address and rectify the issue within the given period. It allows the operator to continue the business whilst taking steps to address their shortcoming.
If you hold a standard licence you will be able to proceed with a period of grace application for three of the mandatory licence requirements:
- Financial standing
- Professional competence
- Stable establishment
During the period of grace, it is expected that the operator will address the issue before the end of that period, highlighting that they do meet the relevant licence requirement. If you are applying for a period of grace, it is advisable you provide evidence and not to leave it too late! The Traffic Commissioner is more likely to grant you a period of grace if they believe it is appropriate. The greater the amount of information you can provide to the Traffic Commissioner, the better chance your will have of you application being accepted.
