Brexit: Haulage + Trade. Are You Ready for 1 January 2021?

The challenges of Brexit facing haulage companies are back in the headlines following a recent government announcement that lorry drivers will need a permit from 1 January 2021 to enter Kent to travel onto the EU by ferry or train.

On 22 September, Michael Gove wrote to the haulage industry warning that queues of around 7,000 trucks long could clog up the roads around Dover and the Channel Tunnel in a "reasonable worse case scenario" if traders don't "act now and get ready for new formalities." In his letter, Mr Gove stated that irrespective of a deal or no deal with the EU, "traders will face new customs controls and processes."
